DIT Makes History with International ISO Certification

DAR ES SALAAM, April 10, 2026 — The Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) has made history by becoming the first institution in Tanzania to be awarded the ISO 21001:2018 certification, an international standard for educational organization management systems. The milestone is expected to significantly enhance the quality of technical and technological education in the country.

Speaking at the certificate awarding ceremony in Dar es Salaam on behalf of the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Deputy Permanent Secretary Hussein Mohamed described the achievement as a major step in ongoing education sector reforms aimed at strengthening skills development, innovation, and productivity for national growth.

He noted that DIT’s success aligns with the vision of the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan to build an education system that produces competent professionals capable of competing in both local and global job markets.

“The government has continued to invest heavily in the education sector to ensure that young people acquire skills that match labor market demands and support industrial development,” said Mohamed.

He further emphasized the importance of linking education with the productive sectors of the economy so that graduates can effectively contribute to building a science, technology, and innovation-driven economy.

On her part, the Director General of the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), Ashura Katunzi, said the certification demonstrates that DIT meets internationally recognized standards in delivering education services.

She explained that the institution’s education management system has been thoroughly assessed and verified to comply with global standards, providing assurance of the quality of training offered to students.

“This certification is a testament to the institution’s commitment, discipline, and dedication to ensuring students gain knowledge and skills that enable them to compete in the global job market,” Katunzi said.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Institute’s Governing Board, Masika, noted that the certification is the result of a comprehensive reform process that began in the 2021/22 financial year, aimed at aligning the institution’s operations with international standards.

He added that the certification covers all three DIT campuses located in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, and Songwe, and is expected to enhance stakeholder confidence, improve training quality, and boost graduates’ competitiveness in the job market.

Masika also highlighted that the achievement supports the implementation of the 2023 Education and Training Policy as well as the country’s long-term development goals under Tanzania Development Vision 2050, particularly in strengthening skilled human capital.

He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to continuous quality improvement, regular evaluations, and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that technical and technological education in Tanzania meets global standards.
