TRA Plants 3,450 Trees Nationwide as Part of Environmental Conservation Drive

  DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Yusuph Mwenda, today led TRA employees in a nationwide tree-planting exercise, during which a total of 3,450 trees were planted across the country. Mwenda officially launched the initiative by planting trees at Mnazi Mmoja Primary School in Dar es Salaam before similar activities were carried out by TRA staff in various regions nationwide. The tree-planting campaign forms part of TRA's commitment to environmental conservation and efforts to combat the effects of climate change. It also aims to promote a culture of environmental responsibility among public institutions and the wider community. Speaking during the launch, Commissioner General Mwenda emphasized the importance of tree planting and proper tree care, urging both TRA employees and the public to actively participate in protecting the environment for present and future generations.

  The Government of Tanzania has announced that the country remains free of Ebola cases and continues to implement a range of measures to strengthen its preparedness against the disease while supporting regional efforts to contain its spread. Speaking to journalists in Dodoma today, Minister for Health Mohamed Mchengerwa said the government has put in place comprehensive strategies to ensure the country remains protected from the threat of Ebola, which has been reported in some neighboring countries. Among the measures undertaken are the stocking of adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) in medical supply warehouses, the establishment of two additional laboratories for Ebola testing and diagnosis, and the strengthening of surveillance and monitoring systems at border points and health facilities across the country. TANESCO Completes Power Infrastructure Projects to Improve Electricity Supply in Dodoma

KONGWA, DODOMA – The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has completed major power infrastructure projects aimed at improving electricity reliability in Dodoma Region, benefiting residents of Gairo, Mpwapwa, Kongwa, Chamwino and Kiteto districts. The projects, valued at more than TSh 10.5 billion, were commissioned on June 16, 2026, in Mbande, Kongwa District, by the Minister for Energy, Deogratius Ndejembi. They include a switching station, a 20 MVA Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) transformer, and a 33kV transmission line stretching 92 kilometres from the Zuzu Power Receiving and Substation Centre to Mbande. Tanzania High Court Sentences Two Men to Life Imprisonment for Heroin Trafficking

The High Court of Tanzania, Corruption and Economic Crimes Division, has sentenced Suleiman Thabit Ngulangwa and Farid Hamis Said to life imprisonment after finding them guilty of trafficking 15.19 kilograms of heroin. Delivering the judgment on June 1, 2026, Justice S. Kisanya stated that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the two convicts were in possession of the illegal narcotics. The court, however, acquitted the second accused, Sharifa Bakari, after ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish her involvement in the offence. A government analyst from the Government Chemist Laboratory Authority (GCLA), Leonida Michael, testified that scientific examination of the 16 packages seized confirmed they contained heroin weighing a total of 15.19 kilograms.
