FIRE RESCUE SAVES SIX-STOREY BUILDING, 280 STALLS AND SIX CONTAINERS IN DAR ES SALAAM

A six-storey building in Masaki, Dar es Salaam, narrowly escaped destruction after the Fire and Rescue Force successfully contained a blaze that broke out on the top floor.

According to Kinondoni Acting Fire and Rescue Commander, ASF Jacob Chacha, the fire originated from an air conditioning unit. The incident damaged one room and a living area on the sixth floor before it was brought under control.

The Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, visited the scene in Masaki shortly after attending an inspection tour led by the Prime Minister of Tanzania, Mwigulu Nchemba.

Earlier, the Prime Minister had visited the Simu 2000 Market in the Mawasiliano area following a major fire outbreak on April 4, 2026, which destroyed 280 small traders’ stalls. Investigations into that incident are still ongoing. However, the Fire and Rescue Force managed to save additional structures, including 280 stalls and six containers from being consumed by the fire.

Speaking after assessing the situation, Katambi commended the Fire and Rescue Force for their swift response in containing both incidents, preventing further destruction at Mawasiliano and successfully saving the six-storey building in Masaki.
