Government Extends Probe into Election Unrest, Sets April 24 Deadline for Final Report
DODOMA: The Appointments Authority has granted a 21-day extension to the Commission tasked with investigating incidents of unrest during and after the October 2025 General Election, underscoring the government’s commitment to a thorough and credible inquiry.
The Commission has now been directed to conclude its work and submit its final report to the President by April 24, 2026.
According to the Authority, the extension is aimed at allowing the Commission to comprehensively analyze the growing volume of evidence, reports, and public submissions. It will also provide additional time for forensic experts to examine newly submitted materials considered critical to the investigation.
The move further reflects the government’s intention to ensure that the final report is not only complete but also professionally prepared, including translations to enhance accessibility.
The Commission, which commenced its work on November 20, 2025, was initially expected to complete its mandate within 90 days. However, due to the scale and sensitivity of the inquiry, it had previously been granted an extension to April 3, 2026.
Officials noted that the overwhelming public response—marked by a surge in citizens coming forward with testimonies, evidence, and opinions—significantly expanded the scope of the investigation.
Consequently, the Commission sought additional time to ensure all submissions are duly considered, reinforcing confidence in the integrity and inclusiveness of the process.
The Commission has commended citizens and stakeholders for their active participation, describing their cooperation as vital in shaping a comprehensive and transparent report.
