TARURA CHIEF INSPECTS AFCON ROAD PROJECTS IN ARUSHA, SETS MAY 2027 DEADLINE
Arusha
The Chief Executive Officer of the TARURA, Eng. Victor Seff, has inspected the ongoing construction of access roads to the stadium designated to host Africa Cup of Nations matches in Arusha.
Eng. Seff said the visit aimed to assess progress on the 21.4-kilometre road project, where construction has already commenced on the Essuri section.
He noted that the government is committed to ensuring the infrastructure is completed on time, adding that areas yet to begin construction are awaiting the completion of compensation procedures for affected residents. He emphasized continued engagement with communities to secure cooperation and avoid delays.
“The government’s goal is to ensure these roads are completed by May 2027 so they are ready ahead of AFCON,” he said.
The project is being implemented under a Design and Build model, often used for time-sensitive projects, with all procurement processes already finalized.
Eng. Seff said TARURA will maintain close supervision to ensure the contractor delivers the project on schedule and meets required standards in line with the continental tournament timeline.
He added that contractor China Railway Construction Engineering Group has already started work on the 2.45-kilometre Essuri road, which will also include the construction of a 100-metre bridge.
The Lendita road project, spanning 2.75 kilometres, will be developed in the second phase and is expected to be a four-lane road with an accompanying bridge.
Meanwhile, the 6.5-kilometre Mateves road will be constructed in two segments, with 5.5 kilometres as a two-lane road and one kilometre upgraded to four lanes.
Eng. Seff said the project will not only improve infrastructure in the area but also provide TARURA with valuable experience in managing Design and Build projects. He added that local communities will benefit through improved transport as well as employment opportunities.
Residents living near the project areas will be given priority for jobs, with youths encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to gain income and work experience.
Project consultant Eng. Idephonce Karol from Afrisa Construction Engineering Group said the project officially commenced on April 1, 2026, and initial stages are progressing well.
He said preparatory activities including mobilization of experts, surveying of all three road sections, soil testing, construction material assessment, and clearing of 1.8 kilometres of the Essuri road have already been completed.
“We are fully prepared and understand the importance of this project. We will work day and night to ensure it is completed on time,” Karol said.
