TANESCO Completes Power Infrastructure Projects to Improve Electricity Supply in Dodoma
KONGWA, DODOMA – The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has completed major power infrastructure projects aimed at improving electricity reliability in Dodoma Region, benefiting residents of Gairo, Mpwapwa, Kongwa, Chamwino and Kiteto districts.
The projects, valued at more than TSh 10.5 billion, were commissioned on June 16, 2026, in Mbande, Kongwa District, by the Minister for Energy, Deogratius Ndejembi.
They include a switching station, a 20 MVA Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) transformer, and a 33kV transmission line stretching 92 kilometres from the Zuzu Power Receiving and Substation Centre to Mbande.
Speaking during the launch, Minister Ndejembi said the investment reflects the Sixth-Phase Government’s commitment under President Samia Suluhu Hassan to ensuring reliable electricity supply for social and economic development.
He noted that the new infrastructure has significantly improved power stability in the region, addressing long-standing challenges where faults in one area previously affected multiple districts.
“This facility has greatly improved electricity reliability. We thank the President for this major investment. Previously, especially during the rainy season, a fault in one district would affect several others. Today, we are witnessing the benefits of this investment for our people,” said Ndejembi.
TANESCO Managing Director Lazaro Twange said the region previously relied on a single 33kV transmission line from Dodoma city, which became overloaded due to increasing demand.
He said the completion of the new infrastructure has reduced power disruptions by more than 90 percent and strengthened the regional distribution network.
“Previously, one transmission line served five districts. Rising demand and new investment opportunities created challenges in service delivery. Since these projects became operational, we have seen significant improvements and a major reduction in outages,” said Twange.
Kongwa District Commissioner Mayeka Simon Mayeka urged residents and investors to take advantage of improved electricity supply to expand economic activities, including agro-processing, industries and businesses.
The projects are expected to enhance electricity reliability, attract investment, boost productivity and improve public services across the beneficiary districts.
