Tanzania High Court Sentences Two Men to Life Imprisonment for Heroin Trafficking

The High Court of Tanzania, Corruption and Economic Crimes Division, has sentenced Suleiman Thabit Ngulangwa and Farid Hamis Said to life imprisonment after finding them guilty of trafficking 15.19 kilograms of heroin.

Delivering the judgment on June 1, 2026, Justice S. Kisanya stated that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the two convicts were in possession of the illegal narcotics.

The court, however, acquitted the second accused, Sharifa Bakari, after ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish her involvement in the offence.

A government analyst from the Government Chemist Laboratory Authority (GCLA), Leonida Michael, testified that scientific examination of the 16 packages seized confirmed they contained heroin weighing a total of 15.19 kilograms.

The court found that the defence presented by the accused persons failed to cast doubt on the evidence and exhibits submitted by prosecution witnesses.

In addition to the life sentences, the court ordered that all the heroin seized, together with the packaging materials, be destroyed in accordance with the law.
