TRA Commissioner General Urges Retirees to Become Tax Ambassadors
Dar es Salaam, June 26, 2026 – The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Yusuph Juma Mwenda, has urged retired TRA employees to serve as Tax Ambassadors by promoting tax awareness and encouraging voluntary tax compliance across communities.
Mwenda made the remarks during a special event held in Dar es Salaam to honor retired TRA staff for their contribution to the institution's growth as part of the Authority's 30th anniversary celebrations. The event also precedes the President's Best Taxpayer Awards, which are scheduled to be presented on July 1, 2026, at the Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mwenda said TRA highly values the dedication and commitment of its former employees, noting that the Authority's achievements over the past three decades are built on the strong foundation they established.
"Today, we have invited you to express our gratitude for your outstanding service over the past 30 years. We would not be celebrating these achievements without your invaluable contribution while serving the nation," Mwenda said.
He added that Tanzania has made significant progress in economic development and domestic revenue collection, enabling the government to strengthen its financial independence and capacity to fund national development.
On his part, the Chairperson of the TRA Retirees Association, Julius Ceazar, thanked Commissioner General Mwenda for meeting with the retirees and commended TRA for its continued success in revenue collection, which has seen the Authority consistently set new performance records.
Ceazar said the retirees are proud to have been part of TRA's journey and its 30 years of achievements, adding that the institution continues to play a vital role in generating government revenue.
"As retirees, we are proud to be part of TRA's 30-year legacy. We have also witnessed the growing trust and cooperation between TRA and taxpayers, which has encouraged voluntary tax compliance," he said.
The retirees welcomed their appointment as Tax Ambassadors and pledged to carry out the responsibility with integrity, professionalism, and dedication.
